Celebrating the team
Welcome to our employee spotlight blog, where we celebrate the dedicated and talented individuals who contribute to our company’s success.
Our employees are more than just a collection of skills and experience; they are creative problem solvers, dedicated team players, and passionate about making a difference.
Through this monthly blog series, you will have the opportunity to get to know the people behind the scenes and learn about the diverse backgrounds and experiences that make up our company culture. This months spotlight
This month we had the pleasure of interviewing Luke Jamieson, an HRIS consultant in our professional services team. Luke provides implementation and consultancy support to our Sage People Clients, including existing clients with multiple phases of implementation and customers who are new to the Sage People HR system.
What is your background?
"Before joining Tugela People, I worked as an HR System Administrator, solely responsible for maintaining, developing and implementing the company’s HR and Payroll system. This role included building the requirement testing according to specified functionality and arranging for this to be tested by the person/department who made the request. Once approved, I made the functionality available in the production system for everyday use. I also have experience and knowledge of other HRIS as both an HR user and as a System Admin/Consultant".
What Inspired you to join Tugela People?
"This is easy to answer! The people! Right from the outset, in addition to the company showing an interest in me, the people I met in my first interview sold me on the position. Although Tugela People is a relatively small company, the obvious work ethic and teamwork was amazing to see and was something I wanted to be part of. Since joining, I have never felt that I have been alone, despite working primarily remotely and venturing into the office on occasion. There is always a colleague available to offer support or advice, which stems from Thomas Schilling (our MD) at the top throughout the organisation".
How has your journey with the company been so far?
"I joined Tugela People in March 2022 and have enjoyed the steep learning curve required to learn a new HR system, but I have enjoyed this massively. It has been a great experience from day one, working with an amazing set of individuals that make up the team, with a vast pool of knowledge and expertise. I have found this a tremendous help with someone on hand to help or point you in the right direction whilst being given the space and tools to learn and grow in a way that best suits you so that you can give back to the company in an effective way. As part of my learning and development, I have also completed both the required Sage Accreditations, i.e. Core Implementation and HCM Implementation".
How do you envision your future with the company?
I want to continue progressing in the role and add new skills and learning. Tugela People is a company with so much potential and offers many opportunities to grow, improve and develop yourself, and I believe that they will support me with this. I am excited to see where this journey takes me.
Aside from work, what else are you passionate about?
"First and foremost, it is my family. My wife Nikki and I have two little boys, Harry, 8, and Theodore, who is 3. They happily occupy the majority of my time when I am not working. Harry is profoundly deaf and has just started to attend a school for the deaf, which has been a challenge and a massive change in routine for him and all of us as a family. My wife Nikki also runs her own company producing sign art for deaf children. We also like socialising with family and friends, exploring the countryside and generally just trying to chill out and have fun.
When not spending time with the family, I enjoy mountain biking with friends and watching any sport I can find, particularly football and rugby.
I am also currently studying for my BSL (British Sign Language) Level 1 qualification".
